What are Life Skills?

Self awareness as a Life skill.
Basically, these skills enable you to know your strengths, potential, feelings, tendencies, weaknesses, ideas (internal or external) how you form opinions, your values in life.
In addition, self awareness gives you a clear sense of identity, answering the question who am I? How do I relate to myself? Where am I going in life? What is my social background? Where am I now and where would I like to go? How do I get there?
So, these questions of knowing and living with oneself help you to evaluate yourself. This is however, in terms of your physical attributes, intellectual belief, personal belief, your goals, your ambitions, your strength and weaknesses.
Knowing oneself promotes acceptance and the need to take personal responsibility in decisions and the actions we make.
The skills also enable us to respond appropriately to various situations. The need to appreciate self awareness is the basis of all life skills. We need to encourage people and ourselves to honestly analyze (ourselves).
Skill of Self Esteem
On the other hand, this type of life skill tells how one feels about personal aspects, values and the importance they attribute to their lives.
It includes appearances, abilities, behaviour and how all these will influence your action either towards knowing and living with oneself or others.
Therefore, if you have high self-esteem, that means you have a life skill of respecting yourself, you feel great, you are a good performer of tasks, you are self confident in life, you trust yourself, you are self disciplined, you relate/living well with others, you have skills of self appreciation and self care.
However, a person with low self esteem in this life will go through isolation, withdrawal, self pity, self doubts, self neglect, suicidal tendencies, dependency syndrome, low performance of tasks.
Coping or Living with Emotions
Emotions refer to reaction on oneself, other people, situations and about issues.
Emotions in life can be hate, joy, anger, fear, sadness, guilt, despair, loneliness, embarrassment, jealousy, desire e.t.c
Indeed, emotions can be unpredictable and often lead to irrational actions/decisions. These may definitely end up with serious consequences and later on in life, this may cause regrets.
Therefore, in order to own the skills of knowing and living with emotions effectively, you may need to do the following:-
- Recognize your emotions
- Give reasons for them
- Need to make effort to control your emotions in life.
- Need to appreciate how emotions can also change your life behaviours.
